Fox Sterlingworth 16 Gauge – 28, HIGH CONDITION, VINTAGE FIREARMS, INC.
Ansley H. Fox got it right when he designed the Fox 16-Gauge and built all of them on the 20-Gauge receiver. Fox 16-Gauge guns are invariably light and well balanced, much more so than other American makers of the day. Most will agree the Fox Sterlingworth 16-Gauge is the best value for a small gauge American double gun in today's marketplace. This Fox, sn367051 made in 1930, is quite a find, as it has tons of factory condition on all metal, nicely restored original factory wood with nice figure, 28” number 3 weight barrels choke M/M retaining factory correct bore diameter, 98% factory blue, clear sharp lettering, minimum barrel wall thickness of 35 thousandths, and still tight on the hinge pin and breech face with tight ribs and mirror bores. The action has 95% strong factory case color (turning dark), 95% factory blue on the trigger guard, perfect screws, and original length of pull to the factory buttplate makes this an incredible find. It is in rarely found condition with good shooting dimensions, ready for the upcoming season’s upland game and clay targets. Nice original Sterlingworth guns are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making guns like this one a great investment opportunity. Weighing just 6 1/4lbs. and balanced just forward of the hinge pin, this gun puts a smile on your face when you pick her up. This is a VFI CERTIFIED gun, having been stripped to its smallest parts, cleaned in the Ultrasonic cleaner, all parts inspected for integrity and function, all lubricated properly and reassembled with a 90 day mechanical warranty to the new owner from Vintage Firearms, Inc., that’s who! See all specs in the tables below or on their website.
Chambers are 2 1/2" and the stock measures 14 1/8" x 2 7/8" x 1 5/8" x neutral cast.
Vintage Firearms can change the dimensions for the winner if needed. Below is a list of possible upgrades the buyer might want to consider:
1. Change chokes - $150 per barrel, done properly from the breech end of the barrels
2. lengthen chambers from 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" - $160
3. extend forcing cone tapers to 1 1/2" long - $200
4. Bend stock for different dimensions - $250
5. Add vintage pad to increase LOP - $275 and up
Vintage Firearms will allow a 50% discount from the above prices for any work requested on the raffle gun, Fox Sterlingworth 16-Gauge sn367051 to make the gun fit the needs of the new owner. That will be our contribution to the fund raising event.
